So, Kirk Cameron's a fundy. Who knew?
His little intro for non-Christians was so appealing:
"Almost everyone thinks they are a good person. But the question you should be asking is, am I good ENOUGH to go to heaven?"
Followed by an in-depth consideration of whether you're personally measuring up to the ten commandments. Yup, makes me want to run and grab my VISA and buy their at-home study course.

We're all hypocrites!
by free2beme ini firmly believe that if you talk to someone long enough and know someone long enough, you will learn they are a hypocrite.
i don't think anyone can remain on one theme in their life forever and stick with it, as life is just to much about change to allow this and the human experience is about learning and changing.
when i see people quote others and yell the inevitable "hypocrite" comment in their direction.

And that's why I'm the tall penguin. I know I'm a contradiction in terms. And I'm okay with that.

Brief Announcement: I have disfellowshipped the Watctower Society
by bigmouth init is with little or no regret that i have found it necessary to disfellowship the watchtower bible and tract society in order to protect my good name.
after unrepentantly fornicating with the scarlet coloured wild beast for 10 years and having been exposed by a worldly organization, i have not been able to find any note of contrition or shame.plenty of time has been allowed for an apology but nothing has been forthcoming.indeed, minimising the sin indicates a haughty attitude.
i,for my part, will forever be ashamed of my association with wtbs.i apologise to bible students i've had and the fear i have displayed in saying nothing for 24 years.

All Elders Aren't Bad
by sammielee24 ini've read posts from time to time where it is obvious that people have been treated badly by either a jc or by individual elder themselves while in the society.
i can honestly say that in all my years as an elder, i have never seen this side.
most elders that i have known are committed, honest and fair minded men, who believe in what they are doing and have complete and utter faith in the organization.

No, all elders aren't bad. As Ray Franz has said, they are, like all jws, "victims of victims." In my last congregation there were a few elders there that I would consider good men; conscientious, caring and loving men. After my previously traumatic jc in another congregation, these elders provided a safe place to land, even assuring me that my jc was wrongly handled. It was these elders that restored my faith in the system, even if just for a short time.
At one point, I even wrote a letter to the BOE in that congregation thanking them for the time and effort they expended on behalf of the congregation. I also thanked them for having helped "restore" me. And at the time, I meant what I wrote. There were some good elders in that congregation. One in particular I considered my "spiritual father." He helped me through some very difficult times, listening to my hurts, even crying with me at times.
In my experience though, it is these good elders that get burnt out. I've seen them abuse alcohol to cope. I've watched them develop heart problems. Shortly before I started my fade I accompanied my "spiritual father" to the hospital for yet more tests on his heart. He had recently stepped out of the Secretary role in the congregation and he continued to hurt for the plight of the congregation. He really cared for the "sheep". And it was slowly killing him. This is a good elder. A good man.
Unfortunately, in the end, even the good elders succumb to their organizational training. As upside/down quoted: "All that is necessary for Evil to triumph...is for good men to do NOTHING!" In the past couple of years, I watched these much-loved elders in my congregation tow the party line and turn a blind eye to injustice and abuse. I watched them impute wrong motives. I watched them judge without evidence. I watched them "stop up their ear" to the cries of those wronged. I watched them use their position to "lord it over."
In one of my last email correspondences with my "spiritual father" (I was fading and inactive by this point) I thanked him for being a wonderful mentor and friend to me. I reminisced about the wonderful times we'd shared in the field service. (He was a pioneer.) I told him that he embodied what I thought it meant to be a shephard. He didn't reply to that email. In my very last email I cried out about the abhorrent deeds being committed in the name of Jehovah, the God I and he loved so much. Again, no reply. And that was the last of it.
So, it's true. All elders aren't bad. But even those with good intentions and a good heart can stand by and watch as the people they love and want to protect are mistreated and abused. And that, imho, is intolerable behaviour from any human being, jw or not.

"Terence Howard, who was in the movie Crash and Ray to name a few, was raised a dub."
Ya, Terence visited my congregation a few summers back while filming in Toronto. He studied with a few of the elders there. I met him but didn't know who he was at the time. Snappy dresser with fabulous eyes. Made very intelligent comments at the meetings. At the DC that year, I heard that there were sisters going up to him for autographs.

Do convereted jews believe that Jesus is Jehovah?
by RevFrank inwhen i debate with witnesses and it comes to scripture about jesus making statements that lead to jews thinking jesus is making statements that he is god..many of witnesses denie that jesus was telling the jews that he was god.
i make them turn to john 10:33--->>>there the jews argue about it.
and when they read it..they try to explain, witnesses, it states something different.. witnesses do denie the exsistance of the trinity.

Where did you sit at the Kingdom Hall?
by truthseeker ini always preferred the back of the hall.
here, i could go to sleep, read the latest awake!
if you're at either end of the middle row of seats, you can see who has studied their watchtower and who hasn't.

Thanks truthseeker for that little ditty. I'll be singin' that stupid song all day now!
I preferred to sit towards the back. I got too paranoid sitting near the front. Felt like 200 eyes were boring into the back of my head. I also fidget a lot so when I sat at the back, usually near the kids, my fidgeting would blend in.

Trace:
Currently, the study program is as follows:
1. Brochure: "What Does God Require of Us?"
2. Book: "The Knowledge That Leads to Everlasting Life" (If not already, this will be officially replaced with the recent release "What Does the Bible Really Teach?"
3. Book: "Worship the Only True God"
The first two are required before baptism. The third one can be studied afterwards.
